    Job Grant

A Job Grant is a tax-free lump sum. You may be eligible for a Job Grant if you have been claiming one of the following benefits:
    • Employment and Support Allowance
    • Incapacity Benefit
    • Income Support
    • Jobseeker's Allowance
    • Severe Disablement Allowance
You will need to have been claiming benefit continuously for more than six months and starting work of more than 16 hours per week.
You'll automatically get Job Grant if you're eligible. You just need to make sure you tell your Jobcentre Plus Office that you're starting work. You'll be paid in the same way as you were paid your benefit.

  • Yeah, it was that one. It was hell for me having to manage almost a month without any money whatsoever. It's a case of "See ya later" without even a thought of how you'll manage before you get paid.

i thought JSA is paid in arrears - so surely you'd be due another payment.

yes the monthly paying thing was obviously thought of by some rich person who has never been out of work. it is definitely a major issue for poor people looking for work if they cant rely on mummy and daddy to help them out. everyone should have the legal right to be paid weekly.

When you start ask your new employer for an advance against your first months pay? I have done this quite often when I was responsible for a lot of recruitment.
i went for a job that was only for 6 weeks work once and the boss told me they paid monthly. i thought are you taking the p**s. i asked if he could make an exception considering i was only going to be there for 6 weeks. he said no we have an agreement with the bank.

even if someone is due a full 2 weeks of jsa that isnt very much to cover a months worth of full rent, full council tax, food, gas, electric etc.

Try to ask family, friends, relatives, I full believe people do not mind to lend you for £20. If you could get two person to lend you £20 then you will survive ...

So I managed to find a job. Yey. So that's no more JSA for me.

But I have only 83p in my bank account to last me a month. Can someone explain to me how I'm supposed to live on that?

I may as well quit the job sign on tomorrow. At least I'd have food in three days time! :(
