travel insurance after the fact !?

I have booked some flights for my family (3 of them) to fly out to canada. Paid by debit card.
Unfortunately due to ilness its possible that 2 of the 3 will not be going.
(Basically the mother and father on this booking - the mother has what seems to be a collapsed lung - diagnosed this week)
The tickets are non refundable and non changeable! - bought them from a "cheapest deal" perspective.
As yet the three have not bought travel insurance - do you think its possible to buy travel insurance and then try and claim for the cancellation ?
Or would this be fraud and also bound to be determined by the insurance company ?
I have contacted the flight company and they said basically that there was nothing they can do but perhaps to try the travel insurers !
Any thoughts appreciated ! - I am still hoping that they still go out to canada but its tough times at the moment and we just wont know for a coupld of weeks. At the end of the day its only money and health is more important.

If my house burns down can I buy fire insurance afterwards?0
-
If you can find an insurance company that will take on the preexisting condition then yes, you can
Looks rather unlikely though.0 -

You can try it, but i'll tell you now, there is absolutely ZERO CHANCE of getting anything back through the insurance.
Firstly, if you did buy ant travel insurance, you would need to declare any pre-existing medical conditions (say, for exampla, a collapsed lung). If you fail to declare, and then try make a claim, the first thing the insurance company would do would be to contact the person's doctor to see their medical records. This will clearly show that your mother had the medical condition prior to the purchase of the holiday insurance, and therefore not covered.
Whilst i am sorry for the fact that you cannot go, it's unfortunate that people who think the way you do only assist in putting insurance prices up for the genuine people who think to take insurance out at the time of making a booking, whether or not they need it or not, not just when they need it in order to save them money, defraud the insurance company and defraud the general population!

Dzug1, whilst many insurances will cover pre existing medical conditions (usually for a fee), when you pre-screen you have to state that you are currently in a fit state to travel, and the condition has to get miuch worse in order to process a claim. And, chances are, the policy price will be a whole lot more than what the claim would be for anyway!.I used to be a Travel Agent Used to be a travel agent for 23 Years, but now out of the industry. thanks for all the replies
i was just panicking - "we shall see"
i wont be bothering with insurance after the fact
And yes I know its morally wrong but having been the wrong end of an accident against an uninsured motorist and suffering the consequences of the insurers deeming the other person to be unworthy of pursuing I HATE INSURERS
Or rather I hate the scroungers and benefit cheap society that we have bread that results in upped insurance etc. etc.
While we are at it we should bring back capital punishment
Rant over let me try and wind down now !!0 -
holy double standard, Batman!Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0

Have you thought about asking for criedit on the flights. Similarly I have travel insurance through my bank but can't make heads or tails of it until i speak with someone tomorrow. anyway i asked the flight company and they would consider criedit as i will make the flight in a couple of weeks.0

Non-changeable means just that, crediting someone so they can rebook a flight is a change therefore I cant see how this would/could happenLive each day like its your last because one day you'll be right0
