Problem is that there are several ways to create a "box" in Word. If the people that wrote the form only intended it to be printed and filled in by hand, they may simply have used a box-shaped special character.
If that's true, you can't put an x character inside it.
In that case, the only viable solution - if you're not able to print the form out, fill it in and then scan the result - is to modify the form to replace the special character with a text box.0 -
You could try right clicking the box and in the menu that appears you can choose insert text. This then allows you to write in the box although you will probably have to make the box bigger for the X to be visible. This will work if they have used the shapes feature on word. If they have used bullet points shaped as boxes you won't be able to write in them but you could delete them and add in a square text box that you can insert an X into.If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0

most forms will just take a click in them if the form's been well-designed, so you click and the x appears......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -
right click the field, and there will be an option to "check" the field under properties.0

If the box is a character from a graphical font such as the Wingdings family, it won't be possible to type/click an X.
If you can delete the box, go to Insert > Symbol, in the dialog box change the font to 'Wingdings 2' and if you scroll down there should be a checked box symbol. Click/double-click on it to insert. Just copy and paste that symbol in the places where you need to check the box.
Absence is as important as abundance.0 -
and if you still can't do it.
open paint, drag the box so it's really small, type an 'x' in it; and save.
then just insert the picture and drag it on top of the box.0 -
I'd put a text box over the top of it and add your 'X'.Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree!0
