Right To cancel U.S.A

Hi I recently placed an order online at a U.S based website for some electrical items, paid for by credit card, since placing the order I have realized that there will be considerable import tax to pay in order to receive these items, and have also found similar products available for distribution from a U.K source.
The order was only placed yesterday (Saturday 6th August 2011) and although I have received a conformation email it is still showing as pending using there online tracking facility.
I have now sent an email advising the retailer of my wishes to cancel the order and for any moneys taken to be refunded to my credit card. I have provided them with associated information such as name, date, order number etc...
Just wondering on my rights to cancel, as I understand there is a cooling off period when placing a online order in the U.K does this still apply when ordering from a U.S based website? And if not what are my rights if any to cancel?
As far as I know the order has not even been processed by the retailer although I am unsure as to whether money has been taken from my card.
Thanks in advance for any information anyone can provide.

The rights you have when buying from a UK website dont apply to websites abroad, you need to look what the US equivalent is to our cooling off period.0
