Hey guys,
Sorry to be thick & thank you for the excellent advice given on here to me so far! Ok....I work from home & my company has just installed a new phone line & a router for TALK TALK OPAL business customers.
I already have virgin media. This is going to sound really really thick of me (sorry in advance) but can I have BOTH connections running at same time (say I'm downloading a film don't really want my work to track it). There is another socket in back of base (fujitsu siemens) unit EMPTY-next to existing LAN (for virgin-ethernet cable to modem)...could I just plug a new lan line in there??? Would it give me 2 'icons' so I could easily click on one then the other? Or would I have to go somewhere like control panel to access virgin internet?
To make matters more annoying have not got the TALKTALK router yet!
Any advice would be fab-thanks in advance!

I doubt you have two |LAN connections on your PC, the other socket could be for a dial up modem.
I'd just use a second PC with your additional connection. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
seconded, keep the works computer connected to the works bb line only. This will save any disputes over useage. Use your own pc (and any other devices in the home) on your existing VM connection. If the TT router is going to be close to the works pc, connect by ethernet cable and disable the wifi on the router. This will help with keeping the two networks separate

If you really did have two lan connections (which is possible on newer motherboards)
You could install both network cables into them then simply go into network connections and disable that network adapter when you don't to use the internet. It's how I disable my BT internet when I went to use my dial up USB modem after BT go funny with me
However I agree with everyone else here, I doubt your PC has two LANS. I'm guessing it's LAN + RJ11Owner of andrewhope.co.uk, hate cars and love them

Thanks guys....however my home computer IS also the work computer! When I boot up I guess if it's just for personal use I'll have to unplug virgin ethernet cable & plug in TALK TALK cable??
Seriously thinking of getting a cheap refurb/2nd hand laptop (companies like bigpockets etc have them for £95-£130) as one i can use with virgin. I only need 30/40 gig memory....& say 512 ram. Only really surf web-occiasional ripping of dvds, cds, etc..Any other ideas as to places to get 2nd hand/refurb laptops?0 -

Pretty much,
You can get some good 2nd hand ones on ebay although it's a bit hit and miss depending on how much you pay
I'd look at local papers and adtrader, they might suit you better.Owner of andrewhope.co.uk, hate cars and love them

Got a Dell laptop off Big Pockets a few years ago, no problems with it at all, except for the battery life becoming a bit limited. That gum you like is coming back in style.0

much as it pains me to say so, currys/pcw outlet on ebay currently have some VERY good refurb deals including warranties. Don't be put off by the refurb tag, most of them are new but had boxes open, etc. so they can't be sold as new again..... for example, they had i3 lappys for £185 last week

and it also pains me to say my "best" lappy was a refurb from them 3 years ago and it's still going strong and in damn-near perfect cick

Gunjack....cheers for links! £145ish refurb laptops with 3 month warrenty, 250gb memory, 2gig ram...windows 7 (Advent make)....thats nearly EIGHT times the memory on my base unit & 4 times more RAM! Certainly makes the big pockets 2nd handers at £110 for 38 gb seem not too good value....(!)0
