Emulsion - Recommendations please...

I can't decide which type of emulsion paint to get for decorating my walls - Dining room and bedrooms.
I'm feeling lazy so am thinking about one coat stuff but have heard some bad reviews... anyone got any good or bad experiences they could share about them please?
If not one coat stuff then what have you found to give the best coverage?
Brand recommendations would be great too.
Thanks

Dopn't use one coat. It soesn't work. Remember if the prosessionals don't use it then you shouldn't either.
Dulux are good, although over priced in my opinion. Crown are also good and better priced. Macphersons are the trade arm of Crown and are good paints but normally only available through trade decorators merchants. Also Johnstones paints are good but again a Trade brand.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0 -
Matt finish emulsion - Dulux, Crown - both good - a couple of coats of both will give you a good finish. Silk emulsion tends to go a bit shiny and shows up any bumps while matt finish hides any imperfections on walls. I've used the one coat stuff before - it's too thick - dries too quick, far better with 2 coats of the ordinary stuff. Hope this helps :beer:0

Matt in preference to silk any time. Imo it's not natural to have a sheen on your walls plus silk shows up more imperfections. Don't do what I did and finish a wall with silk by mistake!
I'm not a fan of 'once' paints. It might just be me but I can never get them to to do it in one go without at least a few bits that have to be gone over. Plus they can be splattery if you are using a roller.0 -
do not use b and q paint - its rubbish!
i prefer crown'We're not here for a long time, we're here for a good time0 -
Bit late if you've been to Homebase but I second the Crown or Dulux comments.
In Homebase this weekend, Dulux is on 3 for 2 and then you get 15% off as well which it helps with it normally being over-priced.
I was a pure Dulux user until I recently painted a room where I liked a colour that Crown did in their Crown Ultimate range. That went on beautifully so I'd certainly use that again.
Also agree re matt rather than silk - much nicer look.

i painted our bathroom in crown ultimate last week and couldn't believe how easy it went on, and how well it covered, will certainly be using that again. compare it to a couple of weeks before with the b and q stuff - 4 coats and it still looks patchy.
crown worked out much better value'We're not here for a long time, we're here for a good time0
