I brought a new computer monitor last night from Currys. Got it home and realised there was no cable (VGA cable its called). When I brought the screen I was never told that the cable was not included, I can not use my current cable as its intergrated into the back of my screen.
Do you reckno I could get one from Currys for free for the inconvience?
I knwo this could seem as being cheap but I'm !!!!ed that I was have to go back, waste my petrol when I have none anyway and the 14 year old ache covered sales assistant never bothered to tell me.
So, simple as, reckon I could get one for free?

You will only find out if you ask them!!0

At the end of the day you can ask but personally I wouldn't think it likely at all that they would give you one - if you had bought the PC and monitor together then they probably should have pointed it out but having simply bought the monitor then they would have no idea if you had the cable at home or not.
I am surprised that they didnt try to cross sell you an additional item but then I would guess at least 50% of people would either say no out of hand or complain about pushy 16 year old sales people trying to sell them unwanted warrenties/ cables etc to gain their commission.
I think the duty is much more on you to check what is included in the box/ that it is compatible with your kit etc than it is for a sales assistant to make sure you have the cables, a plug socket, a table to put it on etc etcAll posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

I build my own computers, I don't buy them, especially from places such as Currys.
And I see what you mean about it being my duty to check whats in the box, but you don't expect to buy a Tv without a plug or an ariel with it do you? Why should I expect to buy a monitor without the cable to connect it to the computer in the first place?
(And the 14 year old ache covered sales assistant I had didn't attempt to sell me warranty either for the record.)0 -
I build my own computers too and update frequently. The cables for the monitor are normally supplied with the graphics card and not the monitor. Just as printers dont normally come with cables nowadays.
There are multiple ways to connect a computer to a monitor nowadays and they dont know what cable you need.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). My TV takes 1 x ariel, 2 x s.video, 4 x scart, 1 x component, 1 x composite and 1 x HDMI - I certainly didnt expect my TV to come with a cable for all of these connections - they have no idea which if any of the connections I intend to be using.
I know my last LCD screen didnt come with either a VGA or DVI cable (as it takes either)All posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

How much did you pay for a monitor?
I know some cheap monitors don't come with anything inc. manual.
Dell have a sale on now and I bought the Dell 2007WFP which is £340 but the sale price inc. delivery is £261.
Just ordered it yesterday, so waiting now.0 -
Just called they told me it would be in the polysterine in the box, which I had already told them I had looked in. Going back tonight for them to give me another one. Now, its just a waste of time and petrol but at least I'm not paying for a VGA cable!0

I never had a vga cable with a graphics card, my last monitor came with two cables dvi and vga. Normally only get with graphics card dvi adaptors and possibly video in/video out cables depending on graphics. Come to think of it having bought several monitor all have come with vga cables. There not that expensive but that's not the point, perhaps the manufacturer is cutting on costs.0

Thanks Poppy. The Currys' people sound like it shoudl have been in the box anyway. They've said they'll supply me with one anyway. Because they've said it should be in the box they can't go back now I should have thought?
I have an adoptor thing that I got with my graphics card so if I need it, I have one which is a good thing.0 -
I know I am late to the party but does the box list the contents and is a cable included on that list?Scar wrote:I brought a new computer monitor last night from Currys. The 14 year old assistant was probably “ache” covered because he has to work in Curry’s at night and his “acne” prevents him having a nice girlfriend instead.:D0
