Do you mean quality of playback? Turn the volume up, or use external powered speakers or headphones

It is not the internal sound card that is the problem, connected to a decent pair of amplified speakers and the sound will be very good, it is the tiny tinny speakers in the computer that are not able to give you the quality you require, a decent pair of headphones will also give better quality.

The sound card dongle will just have the same ports as the laptop, and could well use the same sound chips inside. There are no speakers in these.

If speakers and headphones aren't an option, then how do you think you will hear the sound?

Well you are going to have to use speakers with a USB soundcard. I'd help further but TBH, your attitude sucks dead donkey !!!!!! and as I've just spent 4hrs removing malware from a computer I did for a customer not 2 months ago, I quite frankly can't be bothered.
  • XMI X-Mini 2 Capsule Speaker . I got one of these recently. No batteries needed, driven via USB port. Considering the size and cost, the output sound volume and quality is absolutely awesome, though will never match powered Hi-fi speakers. I beleive these can be bought for less than £13 on some websites.

Sounds like some of those new PFM speakers are required :D

  • I dont think moonbeep was asking an unreasonable question and as to turn the volume up answer I think that was a bit silly that would be the first thing you would do, and if they are anything like me wouldnt want to carry extra cumbersome speakers around with them, thats the whole point of getting a laptop rather than a desktop
On the countdown mortgage will be paid off this year if I keep paying bit extra fingers crossed fully paid out by July :j

We're not saying it was an unreasonable question. But the first answer is also perfectly reasonable: the poor sound is due to the pathetic, tiny speakers built into the laptop.

The ~only way~ to get around this is to use some other means of sound reproduction: Either external speakers or headphones.

Having said that, one alternative would be a cochlear implant with a direct connection to the laptop's line or headphone output.
