My girlfriend appears to have had two PPIs from HSBC dating back to December 2001. We have just got a letter back from our first letter stating basically the following:
xxxxxxxxxx (loan number) A PPI premium of £1315.68 was paid on 24th January 2000. There was no premium refunded when the product was cancelled on 25th September 2001.
xxxxxxxxxxx (another loan number) A PPI premium of £2615.88 was paid on 3rd December 2001. There was no premium refunded when the product was cancelled on 22nd March 2004.
The letter then goes on to say we need another request for further information to a different address as it falls under another data controller, with yet another £10. We do not yet have the PPI insurance number so cannot fill out the form to send off.
At the time my girlfriend was a single parent raising a daughter and also working in the care sector in a temporary capacity (agency staff). The loans were for cars which were essential for her employment, and like so many others she was told that unless she agreed to the PPI she would not get the loan.
Do we have enough to lodge a complaint with hsbc, or do we need send that other letter and wait another 40 days odd? The original documents have been lost, more accurately burnt about 3 years ago when we had a clear out.
What level of interest would be appropriate, it would be great to get an idea of the final payout, if she is indeed legible.

Hi there
When you make a reclaim, its normally 8 weeks they have, but due to backlogs, some banks have been give extra time for example 16 weeks, they will write to let you know if this is the case.
And its a matter of completing reclaim questionnaires as on step 3 below.
http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/ppi-loan-insurance#step3
So basically is mis sold for the same reasons, you can use the same form, but will need both loan account numbers, but if different reasons for both, then complete separate forms, you can do this anyway if you want to.
Its a possible case, and if the hours were less than 16 hours a week and maybe hours differed every week, and with it being temp/short term as well.
In regards of the 40 days you mention, this is the timescale for a SAR, you enclose the one off payment of £10 cheque or postal order and they should therefore send data on all accounts taken out with them, if banked with HSBC as well, realistically the bank account number will do, and that then should include all data.
They may only just go back the last 6 years though, but if the loan was still being paid for within the last 6 years they will still hold the details, but otherwise call into a local HSBC bank and ask them to check the computer systems, they may track down the account number this way.
There is a FULL SAR template letter below you can use if you want to.

Hope this info helps, good luck.;)

Thanks, will chuck all relevant information in a couple of forms and send them off..whats the worse thing that can possible happen?
Will also send for the second lot of information anyway and explain in a covering letter. HSBC seem to be one of the better companies to deal with, heres hoping.0 -

Hi there, you're welcome.
If they reject, they will enclose details/leaflet of the financial ombudsman service (FOS) these are free to use and the Adjudicator will get to investigate you're complaint and take details from the bank involved.
They will then consider the complaint and may decide to uphold in you're favour or come up with the same decision as the bank, if this happens then you get to have you're complaint fully reviewed by the Ombudsman.
However, the bank may give you the opportunity to give further information before giving a final decision.
The reclaim questionnaire is sufficient and no cover letter is required, but you can do if you want to.;)The one and only "Dizzy Di"

Could make a new post, but looking through the successes / failures posts there is a lot of requests to work out result of outcome if won. Now for my sins I am actually a programmer, so the question is, would there be any interest in a mobile android application that does the mathematics for you?
It will be totally 100% free, no advertising and no phone resources other than local storage maybe to store past workings out.
I have only just started programming for android so have been looking for something quick and easy to do anyway.0 -
