Can I arrange mortgage on future salary?

My question is: As it can take months to arrange a house buy etc. would it be a possibility for me to potentially go to the bank and arrange my mortgage before I have actually began my job? For example - could I go in in the July of next year inform them I will begin my new job on September with X salary and it will be then I will actually plan to move. I would have proof confirming I am beginning this job...
However, I don't really get what hurts about trying to go to a bank and asking to see how much they would let you borrow based upon your figures so in the mean time you can have a look at the market in the area you are looking to purchase - get an idea of the prices and what you can expect for your money etc.

These are two fundamentally different questions. You were initially asking about arranging a mortgage, hence the advice against rushing in. Now you're telling us you only want to know what is available to you - much more realistic at this stage of the game.
  • Can I ask what it is your're studying? Theres not many students at the moment who can be certain of finding a well paying graduate job the minute they graduate. Just curious as to what it is you're studying and how you are so certain of the well paying job.

Also, on the amount a bank will lend you, the online calculators actually are pretty accurate, and in the first instance of going to a broker, this is often what they will use to begin with anyway. A good starting point would be to check this out on the website of the lender you currently bank with.
