Can swift cover charge me a cancellation fee?

Admin fees are not the same as bank charges. They aren't penalising you, they're charging you an agreed rate for a service. We never pay these fees, just point out to them that they are legally only allowed to charge their actual costs for the process of cancellation or in effect they are enforcing an illegal penalty clause in the contract with you breaching The Unfair Terms in Consumer Contracts Regulations 1999.
The marginal cost would be - probably even less in fact. The cost of setting up a call centre, developing systems, heating, lighting, wages etc etc can easily justify the fee if challenged.Explain you are willing to pay their real cost for the cancellation, and that those real costs will probably be the cost of clicking the cancel policy button on a computer screen so shouldn't be more than about £1 for a few seconds work.
However sometimes, as you found, it's more cost-effective just to get rid of people who kick up a fuss and don't want the agreed terms to apply to them.....0 -
This forum is Money Saving Expert, yes?
Whilst the advice from Aginoth may not have a sound legal footing (in respect of the Unfair Terms act), if it save him money then more power to his elbow.

This is a consumer rights forum. We cannot provide info on goodwill since it is just that and at the whims of the companies that choose to give it (or not!).
They were giving the impression it could be challenged under some legal footing but it needs correcting as the refund was purely goodwill.Thinking critically since 1996....0
