vauxhall warrenty issue

hi,

thanks for reading my post.

I have a 58 reg Vauxhall Corsa, still under warrenty till Feb 2012. The rear shock absorbers were replaced at 35000 miles Oct 2010. the rear shocks have now gone again at 47000 miles. Vaux are saying that suspension warrenty is only up to 37500 miles and that I will either have to pay to repair or they MAY make a contribution(will find out Monday)

fair enough regarding the expiry of the suspension element of the warrenty but I would of thought that the part fitted 10 months ago due to a prior failure would still be under its own cover?

hopefully Vaux will pay in full, but failing that please could some one advise me on how best to proceed?

cheers

Hi, I cannot comment on the actual warranty on items however once parts have been replaced under warranty this does not extend the original warranty, so if that was originally 37,500 then that would stand unless you can get vauxhall to make a contribution.

Is it definately the shockers or the rear springs.

I ask because the springs on vauxhalls do seem prone to break on speed humps etc.

thanks for the reply. vaux saying that its the shocker gone again, same noise as before too when the other one went. hope to hear something positive Monday of vaux ,failing that its down to my local garage thats always looked after my (non warrenty) cars in the past.
  • Most car warranties will have mileage limitations on them for certain parts and this Vauxhall on is pretty standard. It sounds like the dealership have refered the warranty decision to the Vauxhall customer service team who will look at stuff like your brand loyalty, did you buy the car from new or second hand through another dealer, previous warranty claims etc. Sometimes your attitude to dealership staff can make a difference as they will directly speak to Vauxhall and if they think you are genuine they should pass that on, but equally if you are a pain and demand the earth, that will also be passed on! (Its not always a fair way of doing things, but its the reality.) It wont matter if you take the car to a different dealer because as soon as they give your reg to the customer service team they have all your details. I have dealt with them in the past and they are normally really good and will try to assist a customer where they can.

If they come back to you and tell you it is not covered it will not be the dealership who decided that, it will be Vauxhall.

It is worth remembering that anything that you pay for in a car dealership, be it parts or labour should come with a 12 month warranty. If something is replaced free of charge then you get no such warranty except whatever the balance is remaining as per your original warranty agreement, so if you have a day left on your cover, you get a day on the brand new part you just had for free. It is a common misconception that you get a year on warranty parts (Many people tend to look at getting lots of work done for free just as warranty is due to expire in the attempt to extend it and then are shocked that things are not covered when it goes wrong again a month later).

If the dealership come back to you and advise that Vauxhall will only contribute a percentage and you cover the rest, this might be worth considering as you are technically paying for the parts/labour which will give you your 12 months cover... ;D
