If you shop around you can get the cartridges for much cheaper than 10.49. I have the p-touch 750 and pay an average of around £3 per 12m cartridge.
    :p happy-hoor :p

Ebay usually sell the tapes cheap. I bought a load from Staples once when it was closing down for 10p each and sold them on ebay for around £3 a time.
  • Can these labels be stitched to uniforms? How do you attach them to shoes and so on?
The sample tape is a thin plastic, probably not suitable for sewing - i don't know I don't sew.

But the leaflet which came with printer, does indicate that there are textile tapes available - see here talks about 'iron on' not sure how that works though given that the printer prints by heating the tape to make the letters ?
    Also this one
    "Brother TZ-FA3 P-touch Labelling Tape - 12mm - Blue on White - Fabric Tape - Washable uo to 80°C (TZFA3) "
Of course they look pricey since its the Brother site

    not sure about shoes though

I got one too, it was rude not to at that price, but did expect to get hit on the consumables, but £3 sounds ok, assuming they are not sample tapes too

I 've searched around and haven't been able to see any for £3 but this is from Amazon at £6.91

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Brother-TZ221-Printer-black-white/dp/B00007MCN0

    and these for £6.65

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Brother-TZ-222-White-Labelling-9mmx8m/dp/B0002BGCA4

I assume delivery is on top of this ... i also assume these are the right tapes ;-)

    Rob
  • But no obvious way to open the sample grey cartridge to put that type of tape in - although TZ designation indicates it is the right(?) kind of tape
May require the use of a knife/brute force to open it
I think we need to source tapes in a cartridge, don't we ? of course if there is an easy way to open cart I'm sure it'll be cheaper

Don't like the prices but here are carts on sale

Edit : Carts on amazon here

re - printing names on textiles/uniforms

They did have this, bit like the old john bull printing kits, you make up the message you want and stamp seems to have an ink pad in it + it claimed to work on textiles and the result is washable

Picked up one of these at Lidl yesterday for £9.99, P-Touch 1000 model, similar to
    http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=46135&C=SEO&U=MLP

    Needs 6 A batteries (suppplied)
Mine is Black with Red back, but that is only the outer case. Does anyone know a v cheap source for the TZ Tapes?

    Thanks

Still looking. And the 5 metre tape that was supposed to be included (see front of packaging) wasn't. It was a heat-sealed blister pack, so couldn't have been removed.

Lidl will accept return. Might do that if I can't find tapes at a better price than Maplin.
