Service charges?

Hi All,

just had confirmation from Scottish Power re the price increase.

However, it seems as though gas/electricity prices are barely rising but service charges are nearly doubling. I thought it was actual energy prices that were rising, or am I confusing the service charge with the actual cost of the energy used?

Electricity price before 1 Aug = Service Charge 18.14p, kwh 10.425
after 1 Aug = Service Charge 30.89p, kwh 10.425

Gas price before 1 Aug = Service Charge 24.08p, kwh 2.944p
after 1 Aug = Service Charge 30.60p, kwh 3.528p

These are DAILY service charges, so why the huge increase in service charges?

Companies use a number of various ways to charge. All they need to do is balance thir books (and allow for some shareholder dividend)

It doesn't matter how the charge is made up, all that should matter to you is the total annual cost. Use a comparison site to find the cheapest option for you :)

  • Hello,
I am about to change from Scottish Power to N Power for my prepay gas. I am wondering how much are the standing charges ? And is it a good idea to switch ? Many thanks Julie

Have you consulted a comparison site? All details of the tariff (that make up the indicated annual cost) will be displayed there.

Also I refer you to the answer I gave previously in this thread.
