Bathroom suite: what parts do I need?

I'm looking to rip out my old bathroom suite, remove all the old timber cladding, fit a new suite, and tile all the walls.

I'm keen to decide on the bathroom suite, shop around, and order them all online for the best prices I can get. I'll then get quotes for labour only.
  • a single-ended bathtub
  • a rainshower head (coming from wall)
  • a steel mixer panel controlling both shower and bath filling
  • a bath filler
  • a washbasin sitting in a cabinet unit
  • a W/C
For this, I've loosely decided on the Laufen Pro range for my bathroom suite and Grohe taps/valves. I'd like:

Laufen Pro Bath 1600 x 700mm (233950) - £306

Grohe Talentofill Bath Fill System

Grohe Rainshower Head

Grohe Grohtherm 3000 Bath Shower Trim

Grohe_Rapido-E01Product.jpg
Grohe Rapido E Manual Single Lever Mixer

Laufen Pro Vanity Unit 450 x 520 x 390 mm (483033)
+
Laufen Pro Washbasin 600 x 480 x 170 mm (818952)

Laufen Pro Floorstanding WC combination, washdown, horizontal outlet 670 x 360 x 400 mm (824956)

---

Am I missing anything? I want to tile in my bathtub like this:

Do I need any additional fittings for the bath? Frame? Panels?

Will any bath fillers / mixer valves work together?

The labour quote will not be porely for labour - it will have to include ancillaries ie wastes, pipework, connectors etc, so allow for this.

You won't need a frame for the bath - the fitter / tiler will make a bespoke on for you.

The only thing I would say is that you need to ensure that there is access to the waste etc as it may block. More importantly is that one day your bath taps will need replacing and the only way to do this is to remove the bath and hence the tiling in around it completely. This may well be the most expensive tap change in the world. If the wall against which your bath sits is an internal wall, allow for an access panel from the room on the other side.

    Thanks for the reply, Phill.

Will there be any difference between the factory frame and one made by the fitter? The final look will be just as good?

You make an excellent point regarding access to the bath waste + taps. The 'tap end' of the bath is going to be sitting on a partition wall which will be made on which to position the shower head. The partition wall will host the shower/bath mixer valve controls. I think it is feasible for the rear of the partition wall to feature an access panel - allowing access to all plumbing.

Do I have anything additional to worry about given that I'm going to be using a bath filler controlled from a wall mounter mixer?

  • Hi
The Grohe shower you are showing in the picture is not the correct model for your requirements as you'll need a divertor to send the water to the filler or the head as opposed to a standard shower valve

Just to say that Grohe stuff is EXCELLENT, and if you've got any queries their customer service people are v helpful. Give them an email.
