6 months up-front for lower rent?

Is it normal/wise to offer a reduced rent with the proviso you'll pay six months up-front?
I've got the cash sat in a savings account, so if the LL was willing to reduce the monthly rental a bit I'd be happy to pay 6 months up-front.
Is this common? Am I missing anything?

one of the things that goes through landlords' minds when offered a lot of cash is - money laundering , or someone wanting to start a cannabis farm in the property.
on the other hand - nothing ventured nothing gained... ask - the worst that can happen is that they say no.0 -
i tried this tactic for my current rental property, but it did work very well!
i offered 45 quid less per month in return for paying 6 months up front, but the agent responded saying another (probably ficticious) couple had offered the full amount. i then offered the full amount 6 months up front which secured me the property, but then the LA said that we could just pay monthly(??).
the problem came when they sent us the Tenancy Agreement which was dated for 6 months, as was the reference info. numerous emails back and forth from the agent resolved the issue that we would be liable for a new contract to be drawn up in 6 months, which would incur more fees from the agent (100 quid +). i said no thanks please return documents dated for 12 months...0
