I am flying to Barcelona in a couple of weeks and need to get from Barcelona Airport to the hotel in Sitges. I have checked on the trains and its a Sunday evening and I know one of the trains only runs every two hours so that seems like a bad idea. Checked on the cost of a taxi and its looking like £60ish and wondered if I could get it any cheaper.
Thanks Syl

Went to Barca a couple of years ago, then up the coast to Tossa.
The bus services are really reliable and cheap, and there's always plenty of staff in the booking offices (not like uk!).
Take taxi to Bus station (other side of town from airport).
Wouldn't be surprised if there were plenty of buses to Sitges. Most continental bus timetables are on the Net.
1.Most buses issue you with a seat number. Don't sit in somebody elses seat. The locals get a bit stroppy
2.Take extra care at Barca coach station. Scariest place in Barca
Why not ask on the plane if anybody else is going to Sitges. I would be surprised if you were the only one.I know nothing - really!!0 -

We went to Sitges last summer and the taxi was €50, this was very much a flat fare, there was no negotiation with any of the companies. However, the taxi company back to the airport charged €25 both times we used them.
Sitges was worth it though, have a great time!0 -

You may have been looking at Main Line trains (Grandes Lineas) the local trains (Cercannis) are very frequent cheap and popular.
Barcelona airport is on a branch line just off the main Barcelona to Tarragona line via Sitges.
I think its one stop from the airport to gain the main line and only about 20 mins to Sitges.
Tickes can be obtained from the Automatic ticketting machines or booking office at the Station in the airport.
Check out the https://www.renfe.es siteWaddle you do eh?0 -
Thanks for all the help guys. Have already looked at the spanish rail website but not easy to figure out. Glad to hear Sitges is OK as booked it on recommendation from a friend.
Thanks againJust because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get you0 -
Yes i agree it may be difficult to work out put the idea of money saving is that you have to be prepared to put in the time and research to find the most economical solutions.
Public Transport in Catalonia is very cheap and easy to use once you get the hang of it and you're able to do excursions for a fraction of the price advertised by the tour and local coach company's.
You just need confidence.Waddle you do eh?0 -
Thanks again for the advice, it wasn't that I didn't put in time doing the research, seem to have done nothing else for the last couple of weeks. I went onto the spanish rail website but I couldn't find the option of the journey starting from the airport, so had to start it from Barcelona. I then managed to get Sitges as my target station although that wasn't easy as it keeps asking for departure station. Once I had done this the only train times that came up were for early morning and I couldn't see an option to change this. I have all but given up on this now and think I will ring them as it will be much easier if I just speak to someone. Failing that will just wait till we get to Barcelona then go to the information desk at the airport, although I am a bit worried as we arrive Sunday evening so think there may be less of a choice of transport running at that time. If the rail website worked like our trainline.com I would be able to do it easily, as it is its difficult to find the exact information I am looking for.
Sorry to ramble on, and thanks again for your advice.

can you drive hiring a car out there is very cheap if you do online before you go out.by the time you pay for taxis fares and maybe days out with coach trips you would pay same type of money.allso if there a few of you you can cut costs between you.
we did this last year and had a great time.great to as car will be outside waiting for you .we have four kids so have to hire same car as we have at home kids love getting off plane into there car.last year it was a diffrent coulour and thought it was great.:j0
