Don't know much about computers but looking to purchase the highest spec possible desktop for around £500 - £550. Does this represent good value?

I appreciate it's possible to build your own PC but I would prefer something that comes ready made. Ideally looking for something that can do all the usual day to day stuff quickly and will cope with some gaming.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

I've been looking at this one for ages

Just wish I had the spare pennies to buy it.Helping the country to sleep better....ZZZzzzzzzz0 -
No monitor, but looks a tidy enough package to me0

So, it's a black box, 6 GB memory, 64-bit OS.
The other software is trialware and shovelware.
It seems expensive to me.0 -

I wouldn't say so. To build yourself would cost more
CPU ~ £80
Operating System ~ £110
Case and PSU ~ £50
8GB RAM ~ £70
Motherboard ~ £60
1TB HDD ~ £40
Optical Drive ~£20
So you're talking around £430 to build it yourself.
It's still quite a good deal for what you get.
EDIT - Apologies, didn't realise you were talking about the OP's Computer. The OP Computer is overpriced IMO.
I'd rather build one myself, and save some pennies to spend elsewhere
Depends on usage aswell, you could happily build a £400 PC that would do everything for a normal user. Spend the extra £50-60 for a graphics card for gaming if required.Owner of andrewhope.co.uk, hate cars and love them

Thanks a great looking system good for the price.
I take a minimal approach to PC purchase now. My attitude is more, how much can I get for as little as possible!
... with this in mind I'd go for this little baby and throw GNU/Linux on it. You can't go wrong for £210 (£216 with keyboard and mouse): http://www.ebuyer.com/251310-extra-value-desktop-7873-1036 0 -

Not Bad spec, but it depends on what your going to be doing on it.
If you wanting to high end gaming or graphic design work or anything on them lines you'll need something with a bit more power, otherwise for every day tasks its more than enough.0 -

Thats just it isn't it? A lot of mid to high spec machines are complete overkill for most computer users.
How many people filled the 500Gb hard drive they had previously? or even the 250gb one? I have an old Windows box with a 40gb drive thats still mostly empty! Now people are looking for 1tb drives minimum, most of which they're never going to use. Its madness really .... :think:0 -

I'm one of the odd exceptions
I make HD videos for youtube all around 500MB each. So I'm already thinking in TB as opposed to Gbytes lol
The new PC I'm planning is going to act as my file, torrent, game, media PC. I'm trying to reduce all things I have to save space. Will have somewhere in region of 15TB Usable storage. Which will be enough for around 30,000 HD Videos

Nah I wouldn't say you're odd, just a data guzzler!
Looks like you might be in the market for one of these, a 135 terabyte storage pod, yours for just £4500. Of course for that price you gotta build it yourself.
