Have renenwed my passport and it arrived today, I go on holiday on Wednesday.
In checking the details etc are correct it says M instead of F
Now in a panic.
Any advice would be great? Do I ring IPS and try and get to a passport office on Monday for a one day service, however that is £130. Would I need to pay for that?

It would depend on who made the mistake I would have thought, if your paperwork is clear and they made the error then by rights you should not have to pay, but if your in a hurry for it could be worth while paying this initialy and then writing to them when you get back or phone again and ask about re checking your initial papewwork !0

I'd call the advice line ASAP.
Passport Adviceline on 0300 222 0000.
The Adviceline is open:
- 8.00 am to 8.00 pm Monday to Friday
- 9.00 am to 5.30 pm weekends and public holidays
Good luck in getting it sorted out before your holiday, you can argue about who's fault it was afterwards and hopefully get a refund if they charge you the £130.Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree!

Surely if it's a renewal it can't be your fault as they'd have your details from before. We are waiting for my other half's to come back and I can't even remember having to state sex.. But could be wrong2012 wins = £933 :j
2013 wins so far = £4,025 :j
July wins: Holiday to Marbella :j0 -

I'm not suggesting that you should travel regardless, but mention this for interest.
I have seen more than one passport where the sex has been listed incorrectly. In each case, when I talked to the owner of the passport, they had no idea the passport was wrong; in each case the owner of the passport had traveled using it on more than one occasion.
I've also seen passports where the given names and the surnames have been reversed and the owner had used the passport repeatedly and no one had commented.
I also had a case where a man handed over a passport with a woman's photo in it. That was uncomfortable: the photo was of a woman who wasn't particularly attractive, had bad hair and couldn't apply makeup well. I spent a good while trying to figure out how to ask if he'd had a sex change and in the end went with "Ummm, is this your passport?". It turned out it was his girlfriends and he'd picked it up by mistake
Mistakes happen with passports. Call the passport office; yours will not be the first one that they've had to deal with.
Happy traveling,
