I'd like to post this in weddings thread as well but started here as met some lovely people who I thought may be able to help?
I am looking for a pretty stick or actually just a nice coloured one(purple white blue green) which i can dress up and then use again later! Importantly with ergonomic/fischer/antomical handle ie the one that makes it easier to hold. Gel handles i havent tried my hands hurt more these days so up for input
Any ideas warmly welcomed about the best places to purchase and save money and a decent stick to boot (places that do the VAt discount would be great)
looking forward to hearing from you!

There is a pretty floral ones here that folds up too, and while handle is not padded, it looks ergonomically shaped for comfort. http://www.walkingsticksonline.co.uk/new/folding_walking_sticks.php

They have a lot more on that site and more categories if you look from their main page http://www.walkingsticksonline.co.uk/
You could make or look for padded covers like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lot-2-Walking-Stick-Cover-Handle-Padded-Hand-Grip-/250769672042?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a6309876a#ht_1952wt_922
Hope this helps.“How people treat you becomes their karma; how you react becomes yours.”0 -
For my brother's wedding, I decorated my ergonomic crutch and my futher sister in law's mum's walking stick using organza, ribbon and small decorative silk roses.
It cost less than a fiver for both, they looked amazing and my crutch still has the organza and ribbon on it even now, 9 months after they married.....although it would be very easy to remove it.We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -
thanks both for taking the time to post
Anubis I think the walking sticks online site you mention was the only one I found with a handle thats kind to your hand and then only one spotty blue stick! (thanks none the less great minds think alike!)
Singlesue Your wedding crutch sounds lovely all glammed up flowers too where did you get them have you got a pic?
I'd still like a few more options in terms of the basic coluur before i bejazzle it so if anyones got any more ideas they are kindly appreciated. Good to have a choice in terms of competiton and money saving, dare I say in these "enlightened days" having a choice of colour and type of walking stick may be too riske!0 -
I bought the things to decorate the sticks from Ebay...took hours of comparing prices to get it down to the cheapest I could do though.
My crutches are boring standard NHS grey and silver ones, so any improvement looked amazing, I am thinking of changing it soon (hmm, started thinking about it about 5 months ago and still haven't got round to it), to a different ribbon colour but keeping the white organza...the miniature roses came off within a couple of months from me throwing my sticks into the car but they stayed on for the most important day.
They were decorated to fit into the theme of the wedding, burgundy and white, so it was white organza, burgundy ribbon and small (very small and tasteful) roses. We made it! I recomend Glamsticks http://glamsticks.co.uk/ - Contact Debbie direct for ergo sticks or a personalised one. She can do pretty much any design you can think of, the lady has talent!
If you want to do DIY on a stick then nail varnish works pretty well, and (apparently) you can use standard remover to get the colour off and start again. I got mine from a local mobility shop and used medical tape (the stuff that sticks bandages together etc) as a masking tape as it is less sticky and doesn't leave a residue. I now have a stripey purple and black stick if I'm feeling in a fun mood!0 -
http://www.fashionablecanes.com/Fashion_Adjustable_Walking_Canes.html I bought two from this site and they were delivered from USA within three working days. Some are very pretty.I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
Try prestigewalkingsticks.com
There are some nice walking sticks that might suit you, they also seem to have a different range of walking sticks than other sties.0 -
The 'glamsticks' look great, I will have to save up and treat myself! Th other 2 sites seem to do sticks but not crutches.0
