EDF switch and termination charges

I've just arranged to switch to the EDF Fixed S@ver V2 deal with my current provider's (EON) deal coming to an end. I have a termination fee of £30 per fuel on the current service which ends on the 31 Aug. Will I have to pay this as I've started the switching process from today or not because the completion of the switch to EDF will likely take place after this date.

Any thoughts?

I also want to leave EON.

I came off EONs Fixonline 8 at the end of June and was unsure whether to change to their SaveOnline 7 or pay £300 more per year and go on their Fixed Price 5. I decided on SaveOnline 7 and switched on July 1st

After EONs price rise yesterday i went on to the comparison websites and by accident discovered that EON put up their SaveOnline 7 unit rates on July 2nd!! This will cost me over £200 a year more. I wish i'd changed to Fixed Price 5!

I now want to change to EDF ( Fixed Saver V2 or Fixed Price 2014) but can i get out of paying EONs £30 cancellation charge? If not what is the best way to tackle EON about it? Shall i sign up to EDF asap or contact EON first?

Like neilmcl what is the best way of starting this process?

Not sure about the termination fee but watch out for losing your discounts on the last bill from eon. I have heard that early termination with eon means that you don't get discounts on your last bill. One way round this may be to enter meter readings online just before the swap and at the same time ask for a bill which should include the discounts. Then the last bill will only contain a few units and if you don't get a discount it is not so expensive.

Sounds like sharp practice, energy suppliers are supposed to give you 30days notice of tariff price changes. If you were not given the information of the impendung price rise on save online V7 which eon must have known was going to happen when you signed up. I would ring eon inform them you signed up to your new tariff on incomplete information and see if you can twist their arm.

Well this general topic has been actively discussed in this Forum in the last week.

There are three salient points (1) that Eon has a policy on "waiving" the charge (and several suppliers are reported in Forum posts as having such a policy) and (2) that *you* notify Eon that you are excercising your right to "reject the increase" and (3) then promptly initiate a switch.

I cannot recall however if Eon has been reported as having an early termination charge "waiver" policy.`

In your case it is likely (depending on what you mean by "just arranged") that your Eon tariff will mature anyway before the switch is complete whether you give notice or not. Personally I would give the "rejection" notice just in case.

OK, *if* it is the case that your signed up to pre-increase pricing then you should have received formal notice of the increase and the "right to reject", in which case follow my post to neilmcl.

But given there is only a day in it (on your dates) you need to double check *exactly* what rates you signed up to, however something is not quite right as the general Eon increase is from 13 September. Maybe 1/2 July is when your tariff was introduced?? In which case you need to establish if it increases on 13 September. This is a minefield as you possibly realise.

You remain in contract with Eon until the day you go on supply with EDF, which will be after 31/8.
So there is no way that they can impose an ETC.
