Steel v Cast Iron multi-fuel stove

I am finallising quotations to have a multi-fuel stove installed in my house and the favourite quote is from a UK manufacturer (yes there is one!) - my decision to probably go with the firm concerned is not based upon price but is due to the size of stove and aesthetic reasons. The firm concerned manufacture their stoves from sheet steel (with appropriate liners etc) whereas the majority of other firms construct from cast iron. I have come across quite a few horror stories regarding the cracking of cast iron (particularly when stoves manufactured overseas) but I can find no references as to the durability of steel sided stoves. Anyone with experience? TIA

Probably a bit late in my reply! I have a cast stove which is only a cheap one. We have had 10yrs no probs' However i think the steel ones do warm up a LOT quicker but cool down quicker, yes i suppose there are horror stories out there from both camps. I think i know which company you are going to buy from [D-----Y] You should have no probs with them. Would be nice to know how you got on with it/them as we are thinking of same. Sorry this is late.
