Quick question regarding cheques

Options
I've just looked at my online banking and a cheque has been paid out of my account. I remember writing the cheque a few weeks ago, the cheque number matches the last cheque I wrote from my cheque book, but I cannot for the life of me remember what the cheque was for or who the payee was. I know I should have written it on the stubb, but I so rarely write cheques I didn't think I'd forget. I am aware my lack of memory is quite worrying from a medical point of view! But my question is this - is it possible to find out who the payee was?

Pay for a copy cheque. Typically around £5.

The bank can give you the info and there should be no charge unless you want a copy.
  • Thanks for the replies. I'm not interested enough to pay £5 as I know it wasn't fraudulent, just my awful memory. I'll give them a ring and see if they can tell me.

    Thanks again.

It is a cumbersome process for the advisor and they might try to put you off.....system down etc....if they do...ask for a call back when their system is restored....and ask for a ref no for your call....suddenly the system will be restored

It depends who the OP banks with, as not all of them can tell you without ordering a copy.

As they are now using the LTSB counter application they ''should'' be able to get the information straight away. If the information is not available online then they can order a copy without charge.

Is this a can't or won't? I am not being rude, I am genuinely surprised such a large bank does not facilitate this.

Its a can't. We can give the cheque number/amount, and that's about it. Other than ordering a copy cheque of course...
