Is it possible to charge this whilst its in use from a 12 volt car outlet
If it is would somebody kindly point me in the direction of a cheap cable

You can pick up a laptop charger for about £10 on ebay. Look up Laptop car charger0

car battery 12volt/24volt depending on car,
car laptop charger 12volts as 98% of all cars have a 12volt socket inside whether or not they are working due to wiring.

if anything you'll be draining the car battery and if drained to much will be unable to start the car.0
