Hi,
I just purchased a Sony Vaio and I done a speedtest.net test and it only comes up a 1MB/2MB at the most.. but when I do a speedtest on my desktop it's over 20M (through ethernet)
That's a big difference so I wondered what could be stopping it from getting the full speed? my friends laptop connects wirelessly fine and gets great speeds to match my desktop (which is connected through ethernet(
I'm on the verge of taking it to the shop to get repaired but I know they will cost alot of money when It's tight right now...
Any solutions?
Thanks

Could other wifi signals in my area stop it from working? because sometimes it works normal and then goes really low MB 1 or 2.

all other things being equal -- and that your friend's laptop connects on wireless at a decent speed, then this could be an issue with the wireless adapter. might be worth checking for an updated driver -- often makes a huge difference . even still though, that is a huge discrepancy .
are u talking of your friend's laptop at your location, in your flat ?BLOODBATH IN THE EVENING THEN? OR PERHAPS THE AFTERNOON? OR THE MORNING? OH, FORGET THIS MALARKEY!

I think it might be the channel frequency as I changed my channel frequency from my superhub virgin media broadband from auto to channel 13 and it suddenly gave me my normal speed on my laptop.
Or it could be the wireless card is faulty or too sensitive, it's a atheros wireless card.0 -
You can use InSSIDer to see if other wireless networks are on the same channel:

Sounds more like it's to do with the wireless adapter though as free9329292 suggests.0 -
Thanks, i'll check that.
I thought it was other people's wireless as I have about 8 or 9 different signals on my laptop network connections.0 -
If your router and lappy wireless card can support 802.11n then I would suggest using N there is no overlap unlike 802.11g.4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . Aint no sunshine ☀️ Octopus gas fixed dec 24 @ 5.74 tracker again+ Octopus Intelligent Flux leccy0

It's around 20-30MB on ethernet, so it's obviously a problem with the wireless.. I'm baffled as like I said my friends Acer laptop works fine..0
