dishwasher insurance

Can anyone advise me please on a problem .We have had our dishwasher insured for several years , a few wks ago had a problem with it , called out service company , fixed some of the problem & said they would come back when they had the new spare part - we were able to use the d/washer so next day put it to good use , after about 1/2 hr awful burning smell so switched it off . Rang insurance company & service engineer to let them know about new problem , they re3turned with a new part & found that the inside panel ( the new one that had been fitted ! ) was burnt out .Engineer said he report this and advise us whether it could be repaired or if we would need a new d/washer . Today we received a letter from insurance company stating that we would be getting a new appliance , but we would have to pay the outstanding amount on our insurance policy - £113.54, this apparantly includes delivery charges . But surely this is why we take out insurance policies to protect against them when broken down ?? Why are we having to pay for having insurance - am i being REALLY THICK ?? !!
aNY ADVICE would be really appreciated .

Are you sure that the payment is not for 50% of the new appliance as that's all the insurance company will pay.

I have had a couple of instances of this, where they have selected a similar product, but expect me to pay some towards it. The model I they were suggesting was not as good as the one they were replacing according to consumer, reports so I phoned them and told them I didn't want that model. I found a model that I did want and it cam in at the price they were willing to pay upto, so I didn't have to pay anything.

Do you allege that the service fitter is responsible for the failure of the new part? If you don't, then you should go with the advice above. If you do, then you should put it to the insurer that the loss is down to them.
