faulty item-replaced-but faulty again

Bought Steelseries headphones in Sept 2010 but within 4 months the cable was faulty- supplier replaced with new headphones. However again within 4 months the cable is faulty again.
I pointed out that these have not lasted a reasonable length of time.
The supplier asked for pictures of cable, and replied "that the damage to this headset is due to "wear and tear" - we will therefore be unable to process this return. "
Is there anything that can be done as warranty is for a year.
Thankyou for your thoughts
