Hey all,
Just got some quote for a range of work for my newly purchased house. They look ok to me, but as a first time home owner I'm a bit outside my comfort zone.
Quote 1:
Refit of 4 piece bathroom (labour): £750
We'll be doing the tiling ourselves, so basically this is just to remove existing suite and install new one. Nothing is being moved, so minimal plumbing work.
Quote 2:
New Boiler installation (labour and boiler): £2170
Looks a little expensive to me, but includes a Viessmann 100 series condenser combi-boiler which I gather is fairly high end.
Quote 3:
Partial kitchen installation (labour): £650
We'll be doing most of the work ourselves, the quote is just to cut and fit the worktops, plumb white goods (washer, drier, dishwasher) and replace gas hob (involves moving the gas a good 2 metres).
So do these seam reasonable?
Thanks
Mike

Hi Mike,
I'd recommend getting more quotes, at least three for each job, quotes are free! See if you can roll the work into one larger job, i.e. get the same person to do all the work, as you may get a better deal on one bigger job than on three smaller ones.
Make sure they have the relevant qualifications for gas/electrics and boiler installation.
If possible ask friends or work colleagues for suggestions of reliable tradesmen. I've had such mixed experiences I'd definitely try to get a personal recommendation.
Failing that maybe use something like www.ratedpeople.com , my neighbour used it to find someone to repoint a wall and she was happy with the result.
Good luck,0
