Netgear WPA2 update

To anybody who has a DG834PN

Netgear have released the latest firmware (1.03.30) making it WPA2 compatible. This combined with the WPA2 update from microsoft will also make the WPN111 USB adapter and the WG511T WPA2 compatible as well so if you own these products you can now have your network totally WPA2.

One note. The Netgear drivers for the WG5111T are already WPA2 compatible using the netgear utility but installing the XP update will let you now use the Windows connection manager. The WPN111 netgear utility wont let me use WPA2 but windows connection manager will after the update.

  • Hi m8 i have the DG834PN and after i had an unsuccessful upgrade of the firmware i managed to get it upgraded with the 2nd attempt. i have the WPA2 encryption enabled but for some reason my laptops internal wireless wont work with this type of encryption.

it only works with the WEP encryption is it because the netgear is 108mb speed and the laptops internal wireless is only 54mb.

Your internal wireless card should offer WPA encryption, but you won't be able to get it to run at 108 (super-G) speed - you'll need a Netgear dongle attached for faster speeds, as the router can be set to use high speed only with compatible (same brand) devices within range.

  • Yazza my laptop's internal wifi connection wont work when i use a stronger encryption than WEP.

in my router settings it offers WPA2 encryption and i have had this working with the Netgear Dongle but my laptop simply wont work.

WPA2 can be set on compatible routers... Very few laptop adapters or cards offer this at the moment.. You should check your manufacturers website for new drivers as they need an update to use WPA2 Also remember just because the router can display WPA2 as the encryption Windows XP STILL needs a manual upgrade... The WPA2 update is not automatic..
  • gavinp the laptop is a Toshiba A100-306 and the internal intel pro/wireless 3945ABG and the drivers for this is the 17th oct 2006.
