Backpacking -Travel Insurance recommendations for 12 month world trip?

Looking at the multitude of insurance companies, and Insure and Go appear to be the cheapest of a pretty crap bunch when it comes to getting 12 months travel cover.

Anyone had experience of them? They seem to get slated on the review centre:

Sta Travel and World Nomads don't fare much better.

Looked at Travsure and it's coming up at almost £540 for their longstay cover, including 30m scuba diving.

If anyone has recommendations, I'd be happy to hear them. I guess the main thing I'm looking for is how quickly and easily it is to claim, and how few hoops you need to jump through in order to get reimbursed...

Cheers :)

I used Endsleigh. I cant remember how much it was to be honest but I know I spent ages looking and comparing prices and covers. I needed some that also covered us working in Australia and they had a couple of options for that too, and different sports.

I read so many reviews and seemed like every company got slated in the end I gave up and just booked it!

I used Down Under Insurance (https://www.duinsure.com), I also spent ages researching and the thing that really put me off Insure and Go was the awful reviews I read for people that had tried to claim. There were cheaper ones than DU Insurance but they offered an option to extend your cover once you were travelling which would have allowed us to go for over 12 months (we weren't sure how long we'd be away at the time). I've heard Endsleigh are fairly good as well.

    Good suggestions, thanks.

Keep them coming people - real-life examples are always better than possible bias on review sites!

Are you going to the US? If not then there are "worldwide ex US" insurances which can be cheaper as the US is expensive. Or if you're only going there for a few weeks it might be cheaper to get worldwide ex US for most of your trip and a full worldwide for those few weeks...

Yes, we'll be in the US and Canada for around 2 months all told, so we probably wouldn't save that much juggling multiple policies - I'll certainly have a look into it though.
