Any info or advice on buying in N. Cyprus

Hi I was looking for a villa in Cyprus or Portugal. The prices in N. Cyprus are far better than in the other 2 areas.
I know of the obvious problems of reclamation etc. Does anyone have any knowledge of this market.
Have you maybe bought there and know a good area to buy? or perhaps you are also thinking of this and can help with some info you have gathered.
Thanks

n cyprus be careful with the deeds, make sure you get specialist advice, turkish republic deeds need to be checked for validity, i do know that land prices there have trebled during the last year, a neighbour of ours has just bought a property there. Getting difficult to find suitable plots.

sorry no experience of buying in portugal.

I lived in southern Cyprus for a few years until recently and when the 'other side' was opened up saw many Cypriots proceed to reclaim their land on the northern side, where people had since built/bought properites. (Mostly British who hadn't understood the situation over there and didn't quite understand the land wasn't legally owned by the people selling it, I think they just get carried away with the prices!)

This reclaimation will continue as the land rightfully belongs to others, so unless you can be very sure the land and property you buy isn't subject to any of this situation, is it really worth the risk of losing everything with no comeback just for a cheaper price? If you want to buy in N.Cyprus it needs a lot of looking in to before considering further, hopefully someone with experience of it will come along to advise you on this one.

Sorry I know this doesn't help much, and I know you said you were aware of the reclaimation but I thought I'd just say.

Northern Cyprus is very beautiful, but I have to say I would be very wary of buying property in a country that doesn't officially exist, or at least isn't recognised by the vast majority of nations on the planet including the UK.

Yes, you do need to be careful and do your homework before buying here, though its not as bad as the Greek propaganda machine would have you believe, those who lost their homes(Turk and Greek), were given land as compensation but dont like the idea that they cant keep both.
