Call Prevention Registry

I used to be on the Telephone Preference Service (TPS) but have recently started receiving a lot more cold calling calls. Someone told my wife that the TPS is only for a finite number of years and then you have to renew - anyone know if that's correct or not?
Anyway, I was just trying to find the TPS to register again when I came across something called the Call Prevention Registry (CPR). It seems to be championed by consumer group support, so does anyone know if it's valid, how much it costs or whether it's free, and how it stacks up against the TPS? Has anyone signed up for the CPR, and if so, have they noticed the benefit - have the number of cold calls dropped, have the number of marketing survey's dropped etc?
Any info would be great.
thanks
Andy

CPR does nothing TPS does not - except charge you for its 'service'.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Corporate TPS registration does require an annual renewal.
The reason you are probably receiving more cold calls is because they are originating form abroad-TPS has no jurisdiction outside the UK.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
I've found putting my number into 'don't call lists' is one sure way to get more calls so I use the most simple filter of all; don't know the calling number - don't answer phone. Sympals.... squeek0

Just had a call from the CPR asking me for £40 to register 3 phones!! Just went to the Telephone preference service and registered for free. There is scant information on the CPR web site about fees. In fact I didn't see any at all when I registered. Seems that someone is making a tidy profit from junk callers - perhaps they set them up???? No they wouldn't would they?0

Recent ruling by the ASA on one of the number of companies who imply they are part of the official Telephone Preference Register.
