How to check Broadband connection

Can anyone tell me how to check the speed of my broadband connection. I'm on NTL, supposedly on 10 mg, but the speed seems to be very slow.

with ntl as well as most other ISP it is UP TO10 meg and so you are not guaranteed the 10meg. it has to do with how far your are from the exchange and the quality of cable to your house.

If your on a bt line use there test site http://www.speedtester.bt.com/

Thanks for all your replies. I will get my daughter to check it out tomorrow. I couldn't get back on MSE earlier, as the site was down.
