While on the subject, (and not wanting to hijack the thread - OP's question comes first!) does anyone know if you can just transfer money out and back in to make up their £1500 if what goes in is ony around the £1300 mark?

I'm interested in this as well - plus is it £1500 a month you have to pay in on an ongoing basis or £1500 over the first 3 month period?

It is £1,500 on an ongoing basis, and I think their system will allow it from multiple payments in (although their Ts and Cs probably say otherwise)
I am an IFA, but nothing I say on this forum constitutes financial advice. Always draw your own conclusions and always do your own research.
  • If you don't keep up the £1,500/month you will be charged £10/month for having the acct. Though I don't know if they give you a grace period or anything.
Before you ask, yes, I work for a bank, but no, I didn't get a bonus!

If First Direct is following its rules you won't be allowed to open an account with them let alone get another set of bonuses.

There's nothing in the t&c's that stop you from opening an account with them in the future. The OP shouldn't have any issues in re-opening an account without the bonuses.
Whilst my posts do not constitute financial advice, I am always, without fail, 100% right! :D

I didn't go anywhere near MoneySuperMarket.com so if the extra £25 depends on having arrived at the offer page from there it doesn't look like I'll be receiving it. I'll be fuming if I have lost out because MSE didn't link to MoneySupermarket.com for the offer.

Panic over. £125 has been credited to my account. I have passed over £1500 through the account since opening it but have yet to have my salary credited to it so I was pleasantly surprised to have received the payment before the beginning of September.

I had a FD account up to September 05, but it doesnt seem to appear on my credit report. I've since moved house and job too. I've just applied for a new account, lets see if I get the bonus.

Alanq- when did you open your account? Did it take 3mths before you got your £125 credit.
I opened mine on the link on MSE so again i'm hoping i get the £125 instead of the £100.
Did you have to arrange a bank a/c switching service with direct debits to qualify or just open the new a/c and fund it with £1500?

When I phoned up to activate telephone banking (a necessary step before activating online banking) the agent tried to tell me that I had to use the switching service to get the £100/£125. I pointed out that this was not what was stated on the website. (Unhappy customers who wish to claim £100 on leaving must have used the switching service but there is no such requirement for the joining incentive.) The agent went away to take advice and then came back and told me that I was correct. The misinformation didn't create a good first impression of First Direct.

I have moved those DDs that I wished to move myself. It took about an hour online and a couple of phone calls and it all went very smoothly. I thought this safer than trusting banks to get things right. Also I have no plans to close what was my previous current account. I merely wish to choose a different main bank account. If things do not turn out as well as I hope then it will be equally easy to change back.

Sorry to hijack but i read on here that you didnt need to credit with £1500 per month is you opened a savings account at the same time. I did this and have credited with £1200 per month and they are refusing to pay the bonus..... thing is i now cant find the thread, as i'm sure it had a copy of the T&C's in it, which i cant find on their website!!!

Brodiebobs, you are confusing too different things: the joining bonus and the monthly fee.

To get the joining bonus you must credit the account with the minimum required amount. Having a savings account with them will not get round this requirement; it only means that they will waive the monthly account fee.
