It's an odd one, every day tens of thousands of people are offered repairs but really want a refund, here we've got one of the few who wants a repair and they get offered a refund.

As has already been said, your real rights are with the retailer not the manufacturer, and it's actually strange for them to be offering a refund in any event as you didn't buy from them.

What exactly do you want? For electrolux to replace an ex display microwave you've used with a brand new one?

Yes, why not? It was sold with a 12 month warranty, with no suggestion that this was a pointless concept (in fact, they sold me 2 extra years - haven't even started trying to get my money back for that, yet). It's my good fortune (plus a lot of research effort) that I got it a discounted price, but don't I have a right to expect it to work? I'm still baffled as to why 'ex-display' is being interpreted as "you should expect it to be rubbish, Dumbo".

Reminds me of trying to watch a movie recently when there was intolerable non-stop noise from the heavyweight chomper/rustlers - usherette was amazed I objected, saying 'what do you expect, this is a cinema'. Aaaarrgghh!

It's not? They're saying it's not good enough and offering a refund, that doesn't equate to "you should expect it to be rubbish."

OP - Why aren't you chasing up the retailer? They're the ones who sold it to you, and they're the ones who have a legal obligation to you. Electrolux ARE doing you a favour by offering a refund.

And did they sell you the extended warranty, or did the retailer?

By the way, there is one very positive postscript to an otherwise unhappy affair. I had bought an extended warranty from 'Domestic & General' to run for 2 years from the end of the original 12 months; this is now pointless. In a 2 minute phone call, they agreed without hesitation to refund the cost. Good customer service.

Because that would be betterment. You would have replaced and ex display with brand new = better off.
