Would fully agree with you on that point:T. I've often sat there downright puzzled as to why any children ever get born 10 months or more AFTER someone starts claiming benefit.
I'm even more puzzled when they have a large family in these circumstances - hence when I read that a couple have two or more children already and then get pregnant whilst on benefit it is very upsetting to think "But they HAVE their two children and they've deliberately gone ahead and had more AFTER starting on benefit  <slap head smilie>"0 -
I'm with you. Like Mr Lewis's mantra dont spend what you cant afford, dont breed what you cant afford either..What Would Bill Buchanan Do?0

I think you have to give benefits to people with children. There will always be the few who milk the system but what about the woman who starts a family and then her husband leaves her? Or the family who have 6 kids and good jobs and then lose them or have an accident and can't work. Or the people who are just not very well educated and have trouble gaining steady employment. The kids need the money to live and there's no way you can legislate for every eventuality. Even with all the new rules it is the honest people who will miss out, the dishonest few just find new ways to get around things. The whole point of the system is to make sure that everyone has a chance to make it through without becoming homeless or hungry. The money isn't much in reality for most people and the jobs just aren't there. Sure there are a lot of things I don't like my taxes being spent on but if I'm going to pay them I'd rather they go towards food, housing and health before a load of other stuff.0

I am sure though it would be found to be against their human rights or right to family life to action such a thing even though it makes perfect common sense to a lot of people. The real issue for me is that some people believe it is their divine right to do as they please but accept no responsibility for it and to expect the state to pay. This kind of ingrained attitude is going to take generations to change...if it can be changed at all??????Dont wait for your boat to come in 'Swim out and meet the bloody thing'0 -
Another reason for us to cut all ties with mainland Europe - ie the Human Rights Act was put there for a good reason - but so many people are wilfully misinterpreting it and trying to say it applies in circumstances where it clearly (to anyone with commonsense) doesnt.0

These days it probably boils down to whatever job one can get/children as a career option (at the States - ie everyone elses - expense)/being a yummy mummy (ie finding a man who can provide financial support for living in the style to which one would like to become accustomed).
I find that last sentence very offensive both to men and women as it implies that there are swathes of immoral, grasping women out hunting for men and men who are stupid enough to be taken in by them and work themselves into the ground so their wives can get their nails done.
Do you think there could, just possibly, be a category of families where the husband and wife mutually agree that they would prefer the mother to give up work for a few years to raise their children in the way that they see as best? How many women do you personally know who set out to trap a man into providing them with a life they want at no cost to themselves? Raising children can be a full time job if you choose to make it so and many women do with their husbands' 100% behind them in that decision.0 -

I couldn't agree more, and I think it is becoming ever more clear that the Eurozone has been a big socialist failure and this country has paid a high price for being a member and will continue to do so for many years to comeDont wait for your boat to come in 'Swim out and meet the bloody thing'0 -
I am actually really frightened about the quality of living over the next couple of years.
The only way i can see to help us is to squirrel away as much non perishables as possible and hold onto as much money as we can-somehow.Everything is always better after a cup of tea0 -
I must admit to also being really quite worried about the near future. I've been working really hard for the last two and a half years on paying our debts and getting us straight from the really tough time we had in 09 but even with all that work our debt inc the mortgage is about £38 thousand, my husband has just got a new customer and it looks like it's going to be a large amount of business each month (well, large to us - I'm not talking hundreds not thousands lol) and I'm busy too (Childminder) but this news has knocked my confidence and now I'm back to looking at our accounts thinking what could I get rid of? Yes, I can stock up on tinned stuff but actually if our income goes then that would be the least of our worries - we have about £150 thousand equity (min) in the house but what good is that if people aren't buying houses?
I wish I understood the finance world better but usually have to rely on asking my brothers what it all means!0
