Unhelpful Tour Operator

Hi all. We've been on a tour of Sri Lanka organised by W & O Travel. Our last stay places us in a hotel that is a 4 hour car journey from the airport, meaning we will have to be collected at about 2.30am to make our flight. This came to light about 6 days ago so we asked W & O to move us closer to the airport for our last night. We were told that this would cost us an additional $550. I declined to pay this and asked instead for a refund of the night's bed and breakfast. At this I received an email from the operator that had clearly been produced by the Legal Department informing me that I would have to make a formal complaint when I got home. Can anyone shed any light in why they have been so awkward about such a reasonable request? I won't get my bed or breakfast that night and so I believe a refund is due.

I cannot understand why it would cost so much to change (how many of you are in your party?) A private taxi up the coast, overnight accomodation and a further private taxi to the airport shouldn't cost anywhere near that much!

Well, you're not entitled to a refund of your last nights accommodation, but unless it's a group tour I can't see why they can't organise a better located hotel for $50-$100. There are tonnes of hotels near the airport, even Negombo Beach Hotels can be used as being far closer.

US$500 is ridiculous. And if it was a tailor made tour they should know your last night should be near the airport if you have a 06:30 check-in.

Where are you on your last night? And which part of W&O is it (Tropical Locations?).

They've put us in Ahunghalla. We let the operator know well in advance that Negombo was more sensible.
