Bags packed ready to go....

Does anyone know whether it is still possible to turn up to a travel agent or even the airport with your bags packed ready to go and get a really good very last minute holiday deal? I am looking to do just that with my family and am very flexible on where and when we go and am even prepared to travel on separate flights upto 48hrs apart.

thanks David.

Several recent threads about this in the main overseas forum recently would suggest the answer is 'No'
