Someone's Keyed My Car!!

Someone keyed my car either on Monday night or Tuesday morning. By keying my car I mean they literally keyed the whole of my car except for the roof and tailgate! I couldn't believe it when I went out and saw this wavy line of a scratch down the drivers side of the car, I then walked round the car and the passenger side looks like it got the brunt of the attack which would make sense as it's not next to the house and whoever did it was able to bend down out of side.
They've not just keyed one line all the way round by lots of long wavy lines and keyed out the whole of one part of the edge of the bonnet!
I went to the police and the woman behind the desk could barely bring herself to take my details...I felt like I was interupting her magazine reading session. She said no one could see me that day, Tuesday, and was asked to go back at 1pm on Wednesday.
Tuesday night I was up and down at the window half expecting something else to happen.
When I went on Wednesday it was like they really couldn't be that bothered to find out too much about the situation or even look at the damage of the car. They said they would send some Community police officers around to talk to me and ask everyone on the street if they'd seen anything else. In and out the police station I was, I felt like it was a waste of my time to be honest.
All she could really say is I should claim on my car insurace.

When I left the police station I went to three different BodyShops to get quotes on how much it would cost to get the damage fixed and it's £1000-2000 at the moment.

Been thinking who could of I annoyed on the street but not had any arguments with anyone or annoyed anyone and I've barely left the house as I've been ill most of the year so I rarely leave the house and never talk to the neighbours and couldn't tell you the names of any of them. All I know about my neighbours is only one of them goes out to work...that's it!!
I think it's one of the kids on the street. The more I think about it and the more I look at the damage it points to a child doing this. Two of the people I went top see about sorting the damage said it looked like the work of a child.

I am so annoyed! I've had the car a little over two months and I've barely driven it. I have a high insurance premium as it is because of the area I live in and that's due now and it's not gone down which is frustating.
I was thinking about claiming on my insurance for the damage but was told that if I did my premium would double next year. I already pay £1300 a year which I really can't afford to pay as it is so I can't afford for my insurance to double in 12 months time.

The more I think about this situation the more annoyed I feel. I don't think I could raise £1000-2000 at the moment with being ill and not working. I keep thinking about how I could possibly come up with that sort of money and it just annoys me because Why should I pay for this damage someone else has done on purpose?
If I was able to raise that amount of money it would mean I wouldn't have money for other important things, things I really need, let alone money for 'other' bills.
It's annoying and so frustating. I keep going from being angry to upset but more towards anger and I just feel that I shouldn't have to pay for this damage especially when I don't have the money to begin with.

The more this goes through my head I am convinced it is a small child off this street. They have been a nightmare since the summer holidays started. Making way too much noise, kicking balls at my car, being out at 11pm (when they are mainly under 10) running up and down screaming. There is about 22 houses on this street but there must be 30 small children on here and when I moved on here originally there wasn't any.
Now there are these children running round with no one watching what they are up to.
One child stands out because he is constantly hanging off my car mirror, trying to get in my car, jumping in front of the car as I drive down the street. The last car I had he kicked a couple of times and hit with a stick knocking off chunks of paintwork.. Hes only about 4 or 5 but surely he should know better!!!???!!! As soon as he was old enough to walk his parents kicked him out to play and he's running up and down in the road and I'm shocked he's not been run over yet - or any of them as cars as speeding past the bottom of the street.

If it turns out to be this kid are his parents accountable for his actions?

I highly doubt any of the kids will own up to doing this but it had to be one of them just because how they've been acting lately since the start of the summer holidays and the older they have been getting the worst they have become. They all think they are little gangsters...!!

The community police finally turned up around 9pm this evening but that was only after we phoned them a couple of hours earlier in frustration about lack of attendence by them.
They weren't much help. All they say is claim on my insurance, which I can't do, and they can't understand what I'm trying to say when I tell them I shouldn't have to pay for this damage and especially with my money and health situation. It's like they can't understand what I am saying and they seem to think I should pay for this damage when I don't think I should!!!!!

They said they will try and sort a camera out for the front of the house but that's a bit late as the dammage has been done!
I actually bought a security light and had that put up today just in case it was during the evening, which I now think it wasn't.
But I shouldn't have to do this! They don't attack anyone else on the street.

The community officers said they couldn't do anything today but they'd be back tomorrow but unless someone confusses, which I highly suspect won't happen, they are expecting me to pay! How can I pay and why should I?

Anyone got any ideas what I should do?

Anyone been in this situation?

Help please!!!

Ok, i know how infuriating this can be. But i don't understand what more you expect the police to do.

They have to prioritise their work and unfortunately one car being scratched won't come up too high. I believe they have been reasonable in the offer of a security camera for future. Without someone else accepting liability and paying for it, i don't see what else the police can do apart from tell you to claim on your insurance. That's what insurance is for.

Also, do you have any proof it WAS one of the kids? I can see why you would think so because of previous damage but you can't just blame them without any proof.

I think you'll just have to take the hit and claim on your insurance or leave the scratches. Annoying having to pay excess but there's not much else you can do.

They're not going to seal the road off and get the forensics team down there to check for footprints, nor are they going to get sniffer dogs down there, or review the tape of every camera that may have caught a clue as to who did it. The crime just isn't serious enough. I do sympathise, but at the end of the day your options are to either pay for the damage yourself, leave it as is, or claim from your insurance. There's not much more the police can do, so I don't see much point to taking up their resources. The visit was done to try and "keep the public happy", they know they've got no chance of actually finding the person who did it, and you should too.

As I said I can't claim on my insurance!!! My insurance is £1300 a year which is due in three weeks time. I spoke to my insurance and they said it would more than double it next year as my no claims can't be protected for two more years. I also spoke to an insurance broker who said it would bring my insurance up to around £3000 next year if I claim.
I struggle to get the £1300 together as it is so to put it on my insurance and lose the little no claims I have would be pointless.

I can't leave the scratches either...I'm not just talking a few, I'm walking long scracthes that stand out even from a distance covering the whole of my car. This would of taken a good 10-20 minutes to do this amount of scratching to my car.

As for it being children we have heard one of them telling someone their brother did it and as I don't know where any of them live I can't even say which house they live on.

I can't afford to pay yet I shouldn't have to pay. I've had the car two months and this is rather unfair and I will find out who did it and I will take legal action against them or their parents if they are minors. It's behaviour like this that needs stopping and not letting get away with. I'm sorry but if you were in my personal situation you would understand the reasons why (a) I can't afford to pay that sort of money (b) why claiming on my insurace can't happen (c) why the repair needs doing.
Plus why should I drive around in a car that looks like it's been attacked by a box of nails?
Sorry but I'm not very happy about this and about the police attitude especially as whoever did it has left finger prints all over the car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :(:(

Well to be taken seriously for a start of! Especially when I first went in, the police officer there thought I was wasting her time with a few little scratches.
All I want is some kind of response and not have to wait weeks for someone to come round and ask a few questions.

I never said I wanted any of that but they should of taken the finger prints off the car. They said it's too late for that now and they were in error not taking them.
I just want to find out who did it as I am in no position to pay for the damage to be fixed and my car now looks a mess when there were no marks on it before hand.
I feel that whoever did it will do it again and I do think it's a child or teenager on this street as they are causing all kinds of chaos around here lately.
It's a bit late to have a camera up now as the damage is done. I just don't see why the victim has to pay! There is seriously something wrong with society today. I'd never do this to anyones car no matter what!

We were broken into 6 weeks ago. they crow bar'd the front door open while my wife was watching tv and she could see them on our cctv until they they ended up face to face with her in the lounge.
The police took over an hour to respond to the 999 call and although fingerprints were looked for the following day nothing was found.
I even gave the police my cctv footage which showed the 3 guys breaking in on a dvd yet still noting was done.
I had a call the following day from a bloke who had found our passports in some woods, i let the police know his name and number but they didnt even bother contacting him or looking for prints on them.
At the end of the day your car was scratched. Its hardly the crime of the century and im not suprised it wasnt classed as priority.

If they are under 10, they are below the age of criminal responsibility so no police action could be taken.
Without a balance of proof youd be unlikely to succeed in a civil case. And even if you did, would they be likely to have the money to pay, if there is as you say only one person on the street who goes out to work and these particular ones let their kids roam the street ?

Do any other houses on the street have cctv at all ?
