Quicker way to close a page is Alt+F4....Rich people save then spend.

Dont worry about the sticky just yet although after this I would try the thread so try Tools, Internet Options, Advanced Tab and click on Reset.
This is for IE7 for IE6 its >> Tools Internet Options and Programs Tab and then reset web settings and untick change homepage when prompted.0
