Daughter got a Toshiba Satellite C660-118 laptop for
christmas and managed to fill it with rubbish. Today I
decided to clean it up for her. The system wouldn't let
me run any antivirus/spyware programs, just kept asking
what program I would like to open them with??
So I used portableapps with clamwin and spywareblaster
to do what I needed to do. Everything was running fine, had
to do a restart to remove 2 pieces of spyware which went fine but
during the last scan the laptop lost power.
I plugged it into the mains but no joy with or without
the battery installed.
Any ideas?? It is still under warranty so if it comes to
it I can send it back.

I know the term, it's not descriptive enough to help with diagnosis - no lights? no cursor, no bios display, no fan, a blue screen of death, windows won't boot?!!

My laptop has just died with a similar thing. It lost power so i plugged it in and the blue light came on to show the charger lead is in but it wouldnt power up, with or without the battery installed. Turns out it is the motherboard that is completely knackered and wouldnt be worth fixing as its quite old. I would send it back under the warranty0
