Decor/Style Preferences

I have a couple of questions about what you think would sell better with regard to decor.

Bathroom - All tiled (every walls and floor) or partly tiled

Kitchen - All tiled or party tiled

Also, is a focal point a good idea in a long, rectangular room? Such as a fireplace?

Thanks :)

  • In the bathroom, all tiled is ok as long as they were nice plain tiles! Kitchen though I prefer part tiled so if I bought the home I could paint the walls to my taste. Fireplace in the lounge is always a good focal point too. But this is my opinion though!!

I was thinking part tiled for the kitchen too since the top half has the table and chairs so it could be stripped and painted.

My brother is a tiler so it shouldn't be too expensive (it'll just take 3 years  ;) )

I liked the thought of a small fireplace but the room is a bit narrow (about 2/3 metres maybe)

    Bathroom - either

Kitchen - tiled where it matters, otherwise painted. I'd hate to eat my breakfast in a tiled room!

Focal Point - If you have a narrow room it will benefit from some kind of focal point. If you use a dark colour on the end walls it will bring the ends in and visually square it out a bit. If there is a chimney breast, it will benefit from something being there. Even if it's just a bedroom sized iron one (depending on the period of the house obviously!) The Doozer and I had a massive row once when he refused to put a fireplace in the living room of a house we sold. There was constant feedback about the lack of one and the house did take longer to sell than any other...

Mind you, he did paint a brown feature wall in every room. That might have had a little more to do with it!

Never again is he allowed to paint a house.

Bathroom - either, our flat was all tiled and our new house is part tiled I think now i'd prefer all tiled

Kitchen - all tiled but plain, flat was all tiled and they were awful! The new house is all tiled but in plain white and it goes so well with the cupboards bit hard to explain but its not a huge space.

    Fireplace is a great idea
House purchase completed 6th December whole process took 4 months.

Hang in there everyone it is worth it

my folks have bought a flueless fire recently and very nice it is too. They dont have a chimney so its a gas number, and looks like a plasma tv in terms of its "flatness"

She got it from B&Q or homebase as I recall.

Personally I would hate for the bathroom to be fully tiled - it would look and feel far too cold and would be a nightmare to remove those tiles if you wanted to paint the room a different colour!

Kitchen, partly tiled where necessary for the rwasons above.

Loungs, agree with other posters, a fireplace (decent one) will be a great focal point for the room, many houses we have looked at have the tv as the focal point (I ask you!)

I think the TV will be in one of the corners so a fireplace will be the focalpoint
