Is BOC Ripping Us Off

I hire an oxygen cylinder for use in my workshop, and now, apart from an annual cylinder hire fee of £60, British Oxygen have the nerve to charge me a £2.00 invoice fee. How the heck do you pay without an invoice???

Is this charge fair, justified or legal, I am happy to pay the cylinder hire etc. but am I due to pay this invoice fee.

Without knowing the legal situation, I would have thought they are within their rights. I sometimes get charged a 'handling fee' when making a purchase. Some shops provide free post and packaging .... but there is a handling fee to pay which is the same amount you would expect to pay for post and packaging. What matters is the total cost, and whether or not you accept the terms and conditions, which you do when you make the purchase.

boc don't seem to know what's going on! I would query everything with them - it's taken three years for them to close my account, with numerous letters saying it was closed only for an invoice to appear soon after! i now have a credit note from them for 180 odd quid since they admit the account was closed three years ago - i have never paid them anything in that time! i hope you get someone better than the guy dealing with my complaint on the end of the phone

Yes, they are ripping you off. I get a cylinder once a year from Adams gas and don't pay any rental fee, invoice fees or any other hidden costs. Tell them to cram it.

Are they trying to promote on-line payment & you can avoid the invoice fee by paying on-line?

Tell them you didn't order an invoice, it was entirely their choice to give you one.
