    What is your budget?

What is your daily mileage and on what type of roads?

Exactly how big do you need it to be? (e.g. Ford C-Max size or Volvo 940 size?)
  • hello
ford c-max size, usually running between 25-30 miles a day but more at weekends 100 + sometimes more, occasionally 200-300 a day, urban and motorways...

Skoda Octavia or Ford Mondeo are the obvious choices.

+ 1 on the Octy. But I'd steer clear of the mondeo unless your looking at a the new shape.

I am just about to change my 53 reg octavia tdi estate for £1,500, its on 144K and loads of life left in it.

Real world driving, £0.11 per mile to run on diesel, 550-600 mile to a tank if you are careful. Road rent is £120 a year and insurance group 9.

Really good cars for the money, I am passing this one on to a mate of mine in favour of a 330d estate.

  • I get about 50mpg on a run in my 2 litre Turbo Ford Mondeo Estate TDCI diesel. About 40 mpg around town. Very pleased with it.

Mondeo estate here also MK3 130bhp diesel, I have had 67mpg out of it, But i have also had 26mpg out of it.

Lots of very short journeys and sitting idling away waiting for the screens to defrost and melt the snow.
Its only fuel why get your hands cold.
