Love Film trial

My free trial is coming to an end tomorrow and the latest batch of discs they sent to me has not arrived yet. It was sent Monday and my plan was to send it back the same day (due to trial ending in a couple of days) with a proof of posting and cancel the trial.
I spoke to someone at Customer Services and was informed that if they did not receive the discs back by the last day of my trial I would be charged a membership fee, the best she could do was downgrade my account so I would be hit with the £5.99 instead (lowest priced package) instead of the £14.99.
To me this seems a bit unreasonable as the post can be unreliable and when I've had to send back things in the post previously retailers only seem to care that I've sent it back within the 28 day (or whatever it is) deadline, not when it actually reaches them.
Any thoughts?

They said this to me before. I explained how unreasonable it was, and said if I was not in posestion of the disk i couldn't possibly send them back. They extended the date and I didn't pay anything.I get what i want. That isn't because i'm a brat or spoilt. It's because i'm determined, i work hard for it and i achieve my goals!0

How many discs did you get in your free trial and how long was the period? How long has it been between them receiving your last lot of discs and sending the next ones? For example, if they sent the last lot out the day they received the previous lot then they've not deliberately delayed anything. On the other hand if they received your discs days ago and only sent the last lot out a few days before the end (so that they'd be no possible way of them receiving them back before the end of the trial) then this could be deemed quite sneaky.
They've changed their packages and put their prices up though I see. I pay just over £4 a month. Sneaky gits."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -

I agree with this. Point out how you're in a no win situation (through no fault of your own). If they don't give in straightaway mention that you'll take them to the small claims court if they take any money. They're just chancers and are getting quite naughty actually.
I used to think they were OK but their service seems to have really deteriorated recently (although I've not personally had any problems)."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -
had the same scenario - got membership cancelled on the grounds I would return the discs within 7 days otherwise they could charge me membership for a month - got the dics nd put them straight back in the post, never heard from them again.0

I don't see what's so unreasonable. You were made aware of the terms of the free trial when you took it out (regardless of whether you chose to familiarise yourself with them)
I assume you took out a 30day or 3 month trial. Has your postal service really degraded that much since starting the trial? So much so that you were unable to plan the return of your final discs so as to avoid being charged?
The key to stoozing these freebies is planning.
I think it could be argued that you're being unreasonable in the fact that you haven't acknowledged that LoveFilm have been quite favourable towards you. They would have been quite within their rights to charge you the full monthly fee.My farts hospitalize small children
