Damp Proof costs

I am currently selling my Fathers home and the surveyor has identified some rising damp in his report. The house is a 3 bed semi from the 1930's and it seems as though at some time the driveway has been raised above the damp course!
Can anyone give me a feel for costs in correcting this and what would be involved.
I think the buyers are goint to use this to beat me up on price!!!:mad:

Dependant on the size of the house it'll be between £1500 and £2500.
I am currently buying a property and I have this issue, and been quoted £2000 for a 1930 3 bed semi
I will be pushing the seller to pay for it, but as a compromise I might go 50/50.
The way I see it is the damp has been their whilst they have had the house. If they were never selling they probably would pay for it, but because they are selling they think new buyers should.

So the drive is constructed against the property but is higher than the dpc?
Option 1 is to raise the dpc.
Option 2 is to dig a trench (mine is 6" wide but there's doubtless some Building Regulation specifying a minimum distance!) between the drive and the property wall, deep enough to go below the dpc. Shingle allowing water to drain through can be used in the trench. The existing dpc will then work. Either DIY, or employ a local handyman to do some digging!0 -
dont use any shingle smaller than 50mm else water will rise back up by capillary action.0
