Feed-in tariff - selling surplus electricity

I'm about to have a micro generation system fitted and want to find the best price for the surplus power. My energy suppliers tell me they pay 3.1p per kwh and its ' set by the government' I know this to be untrue, the Government figure is a restriction on sales people overestimating the benefits.
So who is the best company to sign up with ?
Any help welcomed.

Welcome to the forum.
How do you know it is untrue?
3.1p/kWh is the figure set by the Government - it was 3p/kWh last year(changed April 2011)
All the FIT and the 3.1p monies are collected from all electricity suppliers and paid into a kitty and the companies draw money from that kitty to pay customers.
Are you getting confused with the system(ROC) that existed before the introduction of FIT?0 -
I'm trying to find the best Feed in tariff supplier. I understand that this can be totally separate from your electricity provider although we are with Eon. Panels just installed today but won't be commissioned until tomorrow. So far it looks like BG may be best as they accept applications by email and readings from commission date. Other suppliers use the date they receive the application and only accept postal which could delay.
I know all the suppliers pay the same rate so the amounts won't differ but efficiency or lack of could make a difference.
Obviously this time of year it isnt going to make a massive difference but if I can get in by email and that is the accepted date then it means I can make sure I get in before the tariff drops.
Anyone got any other suggestions?Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0 -
Don't bother with EDF then. My transfer application went in in August and was told to expect a 6 week processing time. Heard back last week (after much chasing) and was told they had a backlog and weren't even able to give me a date now. The payments are backdated, so I won't lose out, but it's still an absurd amount of time to wait.
You'll probably be limited to the big 6, as they are I think the only ones who must accept FITs reg from non-customers.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
I will buy your excess power at 5p/kWh, if you can throw me an extension flex.
I'm in Fife.
You supply the extension flex.0
