Car Insurance - making regular amendments

I will try and make it simple for you.
Car insurance is about risk, odds and statistics.
Insurers rate according to how the car is used, not who legally owns the car.
So, if you are in fact the only driver of the car, the policy should be in your name. You can still have your mum on the policy, but by putting it in her name you are effectively voiding your policy.
If you do ever need to claim, you will more than likely find that there is no proof that DL understood what you were telling them, and the claim assessor (who won't be once of the call centre monkeys) will void your policy and refuse the claim.
If you want to throw your money away, go ahead, but you will not be covered under the policy you describe.

Exactly as brazillian wax says!
You need to insure the car in your name as you are the main/only user. IT IS IRRELEVANT WHO THE CAR IS REGISTERED TO, ITS WHO USES IT THAT MATTERS FOR INSURANCE PURPOSES. You use it NOT your mum.
In the scenario you have described, the policy needs to be in your name, as you are the main user. You can still have your mum on there as a named driver if you want.
You effectively have no cover the way your policy is currently.Baby Ice arrived 17th April 2011. Tired.com! :j0 -

And before you ask, no the fact that they have taken your money doesn't guarantee you anything.:A MSE's turbo-charged CurlyWurlyGirly:A

She is registered owner of the car.
She is policy holder, which means she is allowed to drive the car.
I am merely a named driver on the policy.
Strange!
At some stage of the application you would have been asked who the main driver is. If you lied then your insurance is void. Simple.
If on the other hand you are down as the main driver then you would be OK. Check your documents.0
