    btw, 4) is: Mr. X
Does that mean mr. y the leaseholder is my landlord?

I am sure there is a proper contract between owner (mr. x, sink fixer) and leaseholder (mr. y). BUT I dont have a contract with the leaseholder tho

I am still not sure who owns the leasehold title of the flat (nor where Mr Z comes into it or why you think he's involved).

As G_M says, it doesn't matter who owns the freehold of the whole building.

    Please can you clarify?
  • Hiya, Sorry for not saying things clearly. I'll sum up how things are so its not as confusing. Might be slightly diferent from before. Ok, Mr Z rents the flat from the leaseholder of the house who is Mr. X. My rent goes to Mr Z who has an english bank account and is living in greece (not sure if he's actually greek or not). Mr Z is subletting to me and the others tho I'm not sure if he is profiting. I only know Mr. X becuase he came in and did the sink. Does that make things a little clearer?

Do you have a reciept for the deposit?

    Who are 'the others'?

How did you and Mr Z agree a tenancy if you've never met him?

Why did you originally say you were paying rent to Mr X?
  • I paid a months rent for the deposit. The deposit went to one of the present housemates who paid it to the person that left minus bills. I have a note from her saying that I paid her the deposit. I don't know where the original deposit from ages ago is but i expect with mr. z.

Mr. X is the leaseholder, someone else i haven't mentined owns it/freeholder. The "others" are the other housemates. I've never agreed a tenancy verbally with Mr. Z but the housemate who took my deposit is in contact with Mr. Z and I think I have Mr. Z's contact details. I got confused in my earlier post, really so sorry about that! Too many X, Y and Zs! My rent goes to Mr. Z who pays rent to mr. X. Mr. Z sublets to the housemates.

Nope it looks OK. You are renting a room from a tenant of the property. That tenant pays the rent to the landlord. That's fine.
