Tesco Express - Out of date Mattersons Chicken Bites (24th Dec 2006!!)

Hello All

On the 1st of Jan I purchased 9 bags of mattersons chicken bites at 98p each.

Went to eat a pack today and they had BEST BEFORE DATE 24TH DEC 2006!! - So I spate the chicken bite straight out. The rest of the packs were best before 10th Jan 2007.

I do not have the receipt - Is there anything I can do?

well, why don't you phone the shop and find out?

The Best Before date is only a recommended date by which the product should be consumed. it does not necessarily mean that the product will be unfit to eat after that date.

where it a use by date, it would be a different matter entirely.

Tescos are notorious for doing this, and quite often cover up information such as use by dates, weight, etc on the pack with their "reduced" label. Pathetic and illegal.
Don't bother trying to sue me - I've got no money!
  • I would have thought a chilled bagged meat product would have a Use By Date.

I've assumed it something along the lines of a packet of crisps, where being 1 week over it's best before date wouldn't be much of an issue.

They sound quite repulsive, even within the best before/use by date.

    Still, each to their own!
  • Misleading too as its only 91% "chicken breast", but they say "made with 100% chicken breast". More clear description would be "contains 100% breast meat"

I agree it would be possible to report them, but hard to prove when they were purchased.
